Your Personal Research Journey

The topic I chose for the simulation is how to discern between ineffective and effective teaching strategies.  I chose it because I am very new in the field of Early Childhood Education, other than me opening an in home daycare in September I have about three months of experience working with children other than my own or family members.  This is why I think it is very important for me know if the curriculum's I am developing are hitting its intended targets and goals.  From constructing the research chart I have gained some helpful tips about research and how to identify creditable sources.  I look forward to learning more about research since I feel that it is an area I consider myself to be weak in.  I am willing to learn from both this course and my colleagues, as I know this will help my professional growth and development.

  3. Erikka,

I've been working in Kindergarten and First Grade the past four years. I still consider myself new to the field but have learned a few things over the past few years. One thing I've learned is that the expectations for student achievement are increased yearly and I struggle with teaching to make sure they past the tests or teaching to their needs through developmentally appropriate strategies. It's a constant struggle trying to find a balance but I think that's the key. A good early childhood classroom balances the academic demands with developmentally appropriate activities.
